Question:

Replacing 90 year old wood. How about Andersen Renewal Windows?

I own a house built in 1924, and I'd like to replace 9 windows. The house is in SF, and is an Art Deco style house. I have nice french open pane wood windows in the front, and just simple double hung 3X5 windows in the rear.

I like wood windows, but I like the Fibrex composite by Andersen that blends wood and vinyl. Seems easy to clean, simple, easier to install, and more earth friendly since they don't chop down more trees.

Would you guys go for this? Keep the original wood windows in the front of the house, but replace with these Andersen Renewal windows facing the rear of the house?

thnx

  1. i have those kind of windows and i love them. no maintenance what so ever and are guaranteed not to rot. the only bad thing about them is you cant drill holes in them as it may crack the composite.

  2. We went with Pelle Windows, (well my parents) my mom loves them bcause you can just about take out the glass panel to clean it. thats what i suggest :p

  3. Personally I tend to agree with you on picking the Anderson product. Every thing I`ve installed for Anderson is of very good quality and precision. In my opinion they are head and shoulders above Pella. Another good vinyl replacement you might investigate is Simonton.

  4. Renewal is a catchy word for having someone put the windows in that may or may not have a clue what they're doing.  I put the Pella wood windows in our home.  They are vinyl clad on the outside, but they are very nice.  They may be one of most superior products on the market.  I don't think to much of Pella's  vinyl products though.  Go for the Andersen if that what makes  you happy.
