  1. The laminate is glued to the countertop base, which is called duraflake board so you cannot just replace the formica laminate.

Call a kitchen and bath company and have them come and measure your countertop for replacement. Plastic laminate comes in many styles and colors. You can also get different edge profiles.

They will remove your kitchen sink and reinstall it in the new top.Any other appliances that penetrate the counter will also need to come out-such as a cooktop.

Your local lumber yard also probably has a kitchen/bath dept. where you could call them to give you an installed price.

  2. by the time they get the old laminate off it probably would cost the same to replace the whole thing

  3. If it is a simple counter top and is a structurally sound base they can do it in place or remove and install new lam on site, Installers call. You save cost of new base, which is minimal plus cost of removal and running it to the shop. 30 years contractor. GOOD LUCK , JERRY. PS they do not remove old just go over with new lam.
