The Spaniard revealed the complications he faced while looking for a suitable replacement for the outgoing La Blaugrana boss.
Barcelona’s sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta, has conceded that appointing a new coach for the current UEFA Champions League title holders was far from easy.
As news broke of Pep Guardiola’s departure from the Catalan capital at the end of the current season’s campaign, the club’s primary agenda was to look for a replacement.
Last Friday, Guardiola made an official statement disclosing his plan to part ways with the Catalan giants at the end of the season, leaving behind a legacy of four seasons, winning 13 titles in the process.
Considering the fact that the tactician, who also represented La Blaugrana as a player, was one of the most successful managers in the club’s history, Zubizarreta faced difficulty as he had to find a new head coach for the Spanish giants.
Guardiola took over the reins of the Catalan outfit prior to the start of the 2008-2009 season, after his predecessor, Frank Rijkaard, was relieved off his duties.
The Spaniard’s first season in charge of Barca was his most successful one to date, as he led the team to six titles in one year, including the Copa del Rey, the Spanish La Liga title and a UEFA Champions League trophy.
While talking about his replacement, Zubizarreta told reporters:
Replacing Pep has not been easy. It has been a long and complicated process. From May 25, we will begin to make our plans for next season. We must respect the dates and the priorities of the club and the team first and foremost.”
"During the season, [the Barca board] have regular meetings on planning and the monitoring of the players' progress with Pep and Tito."
Although http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 have not been very successful this season, they have managed to book a place in the final of the Copa del Rey. They are set to face Athletic Bilbao in the fixture that will take place on May 25th.
