Replacing brake line on my jeep grand cherokee. the new line doesnt seem to be able to thread into the fittin?

the new brake line will not thread into the fitting in the rear of my jeep. it seems just a hair to big. i went to the parts store, they said there is nothing else close and that should work. are my threads wrong or maybe just messed up. help.

  1. There are a few types of threads for brake lines. I suggest you compare your original fitting to the new one. There is not much difference,so be careful not to force a wrong fitting into your wheel cylinder or else it may leak. I hope this answers your question.


  2. I had a similar problem on the front axle of my '90 ranger. It turned out that the flare on the end of the brake line was wrong. I had a bubble flare and it needed to be a double flare. The bubble flare looks like a bubble on the end of the line while the double flare is flatter. If you still have your old line compare the ends to be sure they are the same.

  3. They probably sold you a fractional fitting when you need a metric.

  4. The threads have to line up pretty much exact to get it brake line to s***w in. If it looks a little crooked bend the line just a little  and it should start. If there is no room to bend it you can take a box end wrench and put on the nut and bend it putting leverage on the wrench. Good luck.
