I want to know what could be the cost of replacing the Catalytic converter and O2 sensor in Sacramento area. A muffler shop gave me an estimate of $598 including parts and labor. Is it a good price or should I must elsewhere?

  1. That's probably about right...catalytic conveters are fairly expensive parts.

  2. Catalytic converters contain "rare earth elements" that are very expensive. If you have a shop that will do both the converter and the sensor for $600 bucks jump on it. The last two times that I have had to have one replaced just the converter was 650. Also make sure that they put a full weld on both ends of the Cat. Converter. That is one of the most often stolen single parts currently. Here on the East coast I hear about stolen converters about every 5-6 days and sometimes they will hit a parking lot at an event (concert, ballgame etc) and take out several catalytic converters. They know the victims will be tied up for a specific amount of time during the event and a few saw strokes later.........

  3. Get at least 2 more quotes from your local shops that are not a franchise operation. Cat converters are expensive so $600 is not out of line for the total job.
