Question:

Replacing component inputs on a tv?

I decided to play my xbox one day and discovered that there was no picture. It is connected with component cables in the back of the television. The screen remains blue. I thought I may have burned the cable itself, but the standard av inputs on the side work fine. I even tried out another component cable and had the same problem.

My tv doesn't have any more component inputs, so is there a way I can fix this problem, assuming I'm out of warranty? Do they sell replacements?

  1. Yes it can be fixed by a competent electronics tech.  Connector problems are common and easily fixed but it may not be cheap if you send it to a repair shop.

One of the problems with RCA type connectors on TV sets is that they were never designed to support the heavy duty AV cables that many people use these days.  If the cables are not supported somehow, they can pull down on the RCA connector and damage it over time.  It is best to make sure that the cables are supported somehow and are not pulling down on the RCA connector at a right angle.  Tie-wraps work pretty well for this.
