Replacing factory stereo in 99 Pontiac Grand Prix?

the original delco stereo in my car is starting to go (display screen doesn't always work; cd player is skipping). I'm not looking to get an aftermarket stereo just yet, but was wondering if it's possible to take a factory stereo from a newer model (like a 2004 or newer) Grand Prix and install it.

  1. depends on it takes up the same amount of space. before messing with car electronics disable the air bag to avoid the risk of setting it off

  2. its unlikely that the 2 are the same.  I would point you to www.clubgp.com its a national grand prix club website with a forum that you can ask this question.  Its a very populated site with knowlegable people that could definitely tell you for sure if it would work.

  3. The plugs will match a radio from a Grand Prix up to 2003 (as long as it's not a Bose radio).  There's no chance of making a radio from a 2004 Grand Prix work in your car.  Not only are the new radios larger, with a different plug and different mount, they're controlled by the vehicle data bus system---which doesn't exist in your '99 Grand Prix.
