Question:

Replacing fascia boards..?

We need to replace our fascia boards and I was looking for advice on the easiest way to do it ourselves. I have heard that we can take down the wood ones we currently have, trace them and just cut that way. But now I am hearing that we should put aluminum or vinyl over the replaced wood. We just need some advice on the process and what is the best products to purchase.

Please note that we do not plan on spending more than a couple more years in the house and don't mind just putting up the wood and painting white to match... and if we do this we would need to know what wood to use, etc.

Thanks all :)

  1. Never Cover old fascias with new, this is what cowboy operators and dodgy fitters would do to save time and money. As you already stated the fascia is rotted i some areas it would be highly unwise to just cover them and re paint. Have you considered upvc? here ar sos roofline we only use upvc now for replacement fascias, bargeboards, guttering and soffits. Why? because upvc doesnt rot, peel, flake or corrode and is virtually maintenence free. see the page below for further explanations, hope this helps?
