Hello, I purchased a used iMac G5 a few months ago, and it's running great no issues at all, however I was looking through System Profiler and I noticed it has a graphics card. What I'm wondering is how would I be able to replace this with something a little better? Is it even possible on an iMac?

The information on profiler on the graphics card is:

Chipset Model: GeForce FX 5200

Type: Display

Bus: AGP

Slot: AGP

VRAM (Total): 64 MB

Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)

Device ID: 0x0329

Revision ID: 0x00b1

ROM Revision: 2103

  1. First check to see if you can even take your card out. From what I know, they are often soldered onto the motherboard. If it isn't then listen to the following.

Most graphics cards are made for a pci express 16x bus. I highly doubt anything you will get anything much better than what you have. I would search for the ATI's as they seem to have produced some of the latest AGP cards.

Personally, I would get an nvidia if you can find one good enough. ATI lacks driver support.

one of those three would probably be your best choice, but heres a whole list. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...

Just know that you get what you pay for.

  2. No, not on an iMac.  iMacs have no ability to be upgraded without handing over lots of money to Apple!
