Question:

Replacing old fence with dogear fence 8ft panels- ok to use old posts?

I have a 15 yr old fence with wooden posts that are 8 ft apart. The fence boards are all old and need to be replaced. I though it would be faster and easier to buy the 6 x8 panels. If my old fence's posts are all ok (not leaning or anything), can I just attach the new fence panels to the old posts?

  1. Well, if you're going to the trouble to install new fencing better make sure those posts are ok---they might still be good, but 15 years is a long time and it's quite possible they may be rotting below grade. You wouldn't know this unless you checked. I'd take the precaution of removing one post to check it out.

Here's how the pros install a fence post and fencing. Tip: Don't use concrete!
