Question:

Replacing speakers in my 95 civic I need help!?

I am replacing the speakers in my 95 civic, I only have one speaker the other one was removed, before I bought the car. I am putting 2 brand new speakers in. Is there a way to tell if the wires from the missing speaker still work, before actually hooking the new speakers up? Do I just cut, and strip, and tie the new wires together? Then use electrical tape over the tied section? Is it that simple? Any tips or tricks are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

  1. yeah man i have the same car well its a 93 but the same generation and everything, tell you what just connect the wires to the speaker like you were saying and just dont put everything back together just leave it sitting there and go turn on your car and stereo and see if the speakers are working!

MOTE: Make sure car is off and key is not in ignition!

  2. The old wires should still work unless they were disconnected at the head unit. What you need to do to replace the speaker is cut off the existing plug (unless your replacing speakers with the exact same stock speakers) and then solder on the wiring that camp with the speaker. These will fit on the speaker already and are the best way to connect your new speakers. Also you need to insulate the solder job with either heat shrink tubing or electrical tape.

If you don't have a soldering gun/iron then you can use wire nuts to make the connection, but wire nuts are less effect and have the possibility of coming off.

    hope this helps.

  3. If you feel comfortable in cutting and stripping the wire go for it, i would recommend an adapter from like crutchfield so that you dont have to cut the wire, also if you dont feel like waiting to get and adapter, you may want to run some new speaker wires for the speakers, it may give you better sound quality depending if the stock wires have any corrosion, if you do decide to cut the wires, go ahead and do what someone mentioned, use solder and shrink tubing to avoid any problems with electrical tape.......

  4. It sounds like the speakers that's missing already had the factory plug cut off when you got it based on you referring to it as wires.  if the factory plug is still there then you get adapters from like Circuit City the will just plug into the factory plug and give you positive/negative leads that slide right onto the terminals of most aftermarket speakers.  if indeed the plug is gone then you can attach the wire right to the terminals of the aftermarket speakers.  And a heads up,  in most hondas(not all but most) the wire of the two speaker wires that is either red or blue is usually the positive one.  if you have blue and gray or a red and yellow then usually the red or blue that's positive. Oh make sure you cover exposed terminals with something so they don't ground out on metal of the car which would cause your radio to not play or burn out but most radios just shutoff so won't get any sound when it happens.
