  1. Gardengirl's got a point. Roses apparently can suffer from replanting sickness if you plant a new rose where old one grew.

She's also absolutely right about replacing some of the top soil. I'd replace as much as you can, improve it with compost and...

My top tip is use RootGrow or any similar mycorrhizal root powder. It is a friendly fungus that will help protect the plant from other fungi and increase the plant's ability to absorb moisture and nutrients. You can get sachets of the stuff at most good garden centres.

  2. It would not be a good idea to dig up an old Rose bush now and plant a new one , at this time of year. Roses should be planted when they are dormant. Never plant a bush in the same place as the old one, unless you can dig out old soil and put in new. It will probably get  Rose Sickness. Try to find a new place away from where the old one was. You can get this  ready  by digging  in plenty of well rotted manure, Then go to a well known Rose Grower and choose your Rose when in flower. They will send at the right time to  plant.  I hope it does well!

  3. Yes you can.

When I plant my roses I add compost to top soil and mix together and replace the old soil with the mix. Dig down about eighteen inches about two feet wide. I have never had a rose that didn't thrive.

Just make sure you wait until the proper time for your area.

Mine is spring and early fall, otherwise the rose will struggle to survive.

  4. If you plant a new rose in the same place as an old one then you run the risk of replant sickness.  If you really must plant in the same spot then it would be advisable to remove as much of the existing soil as possible and replace with new top soil.

  5. dont move till otober or april keep as much soil has you can  dig large hole and tread it in round the roots to stop it rocking then prune it

  6. Sure, assuming the old rose wasn't diseased.  Just replenish the soil with compost, phosphorus and bone meal.  Dig a super wide and deep hole to get oxygen back into the soil as well.
