Report claims Houston Texans not mulling deal extension for Matt Schaub until end of 2012 – NFL News
A day after Houston Texans’ star quarterback, Matt Schaub, said he is not worried about the deal extension matter, a startling disclosure awaits him: Texans will not consider agreeing to fresh terms with him until the end of the 2012 National
Football League (NFL) season.
Matt is in the last year of his previous six-year, $48 million deal and there are reports of him expecting an extension in the hopes of a longer stay in Houston. Recently, he claimed to not being carried away by the expiring contract.
Earlier, the QB had expressed his ignorance about the question if his agent is in the process of negotiating fresh terms with the team. Independently, a stage appeared well set for them to start talking the matter out.
Now surprisingly a section of media has cited anonymous voices claiming the management will not consider the issue until the end of this season.
Schaub is returning from a Lisfranc surgery to join the squad from training camp this month. It is not clear if the latest reports of delayed deal talks will have an impact on his form.
The report has also left a big question mark on the possibility of the player getting fresh contract from the team.
Until the end of the season, Texans might have many other options. If the second-year quarterback, T.J. Yates, performs as impressively as he did during his rookie year, there is a possibility that the team bets on him for their future.
Also, if the veteran faces any setback in the present rehab and fitness process or gets injured once again, the team can hold out themselves from making any longer financial commitments.
There is a greater likelihood then the team looks up at Yates as their future QB, and this can leave the incumbent in growing amount of uncertainty.
Since it is not hinted from any of the concerned circles, the possibility can be otherwise. Still, the player can keep guessing about his future during the course of this season, and it might take a toll on his performance.
He has already hoped for the best as far as his pro career future is concerned but nothing can be ruled out.
