Actually, the baseball writers did hold themselves to the same standards. They refused to reveal the source of the information, no matter what the consequences. And they were the only ones who came close to paying a price for it.

However, there's obviously a difference between the two situations you cite, which is what made it so silly to go after the baseball writers.
