Question:

Reporting or not reporting car accident?

I was involved in a minor car accident and I was not at fault. The guy asked if it would be possible to not go through insurance if the estimates were not too bad.

Do a lot of people do this? I know my insurance won't be affected since it was his fault so I'd be just helping the guy out. My car will get fixed regardless. Or should I just go through insurance just to be safe? The damages are probably going to be around $700-$1000.

  1. I have met this kind of problem before, here is the resource I found useful.http://car-insurance.online-helpers.info...

  2. Remember, you know nothing about this other person. They will totally try to bail on paying or so on. Get some quotes and ask for the money up front, if they give it to you with no hassle...then maybe not include the insurance. If they dont have it, use the insurance.

  3. were the police called to prove he is in fact in the wrong? at least this way  you have to fall back on if he doesn't pay up, you can then pursue it through your insurance company and let them fight it out with his.

in my last two accidents i was not in the wrong and were only minor ... i didn't call the police but i wrote out at the scene what happened and who was at fault and got the other driver to sign this with all their details, drivers licence, address etc ..  this way the other driver never got charged and they were more than happy to quickly get my car fixed.

  4. Read some of the questions here.  When people do bypass insurance, they come here asking what they can now since the other party is refusing to pay.

"Oh, I couldn't have done that much damage, I won't pay."

    Go through your insurance.

  5. yes,i agree with "mum to two ferals".

You need to be at safer side ...

  6. If you decide Not to report accident THATS up to you..

Now, you being the Nice guy will find it very hard to get the Other guy to pay ... 75% of the time... Something will come up. They will not have the cash or their insurance will not cover it after you get it repaired... ETC...

Don't be surprised its one of the easiest con's out there

The other person has, NO insurance or exprired Insurance and does NOT want to report it. You feel compelled to help. But you get messed up in the simple con. For just a few hundred dollars.

Now,,, if you call your Insurance to report it ?

Well ..... Luck be on your side...

Because you will find out if your insurance covers it your insurance rates go up.

Even if the other guy Insurance pays after weeks of calls and emails. Because if they have to cover the payment they want to get paid back from you 1st raising your rates 1st.

Its a simple and usefull scam.... I can't say calling the police would have been better because in Oklahoma or New Mexico police won't show up to a wreck. 85 % of the time.... Texas Police love to show up and check Insurance and issue tickets...

Good Luck... Isn't your neck feeling stiff ? Maybe call a Lawyer ....?

  7. Always report any accident  first to the police and second to your insurance company.  ALWAYS  with NO exceptions.       A L W A Y S  ! !
