Reports Penn State team target Tennessee Titans Mike Munchak for coaching job – NFL News
Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak has made headlines over past two days for apparently being on radar of the Penn State for a prospective coaching job at the college team.
Reports have emerged in a section of press indicating that the team, who are looking for a successor of Joe Paterno, considered besides other candidates Munchak as their potential candidates.
The Hall of Famer Paterno has been fired by the Penn State team and according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette reports Tom Clements, the Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach, and Mike Munchak, the Titans coach are two leading prospects for the side.
"He's a Penn State guy," former Nittany Lions tailback Curt Warner told the newspaper. "I don't think any of his old teammates would be upset about him getting the job at all. He has my support. I'd love to see him get it."
Penn State fired Paterno in November this year (2011) following the child-s*x scandal. Their former defensive coach Jerry Sandusky was charged in the scandal. Paterno who escaped an investigation and any fine in the issue was let go by his side as a result
of the heated debate that followed the controversy.
The side is still without a head coach and according to the newspaper has recently discussed many names including the names.
Munchak was promoted to the head coaching job by the Titans in February this year. He has served the game of football for last 14 years. Before being elevated to be the head coach he served the side as an offensive co-ordinator.
He started his career as a quality control assistant. He has successfully worked through to reach the top job over the past one and half decade.
The news of Munchak being targeted by an out of the league team may not serve well to the Tennessee Titans hopes and efforts to make it to playoff this year.
The side has the last chance to claim a wild card berth into playoff and the possible discussions, which could ensued from the coaching job news, can divert focus of the coach from the job on his hand.
Munchak has backed his side to pull off victory in their last game of the current regular season of the National Football League (NFL).
He even went on to tell them the story of the current NFL champions Green Bay Packers to motivate and inspire them for a win.
The Packers were in a similar situation a year earlier but managed to make it to playoff and then went on to win Super Bowl.
