Reports hint Houston Texans might work out new deal for QB Matt Schaub – NFL News
Houston Texans’ veteran quarterback, Matt Schaub, can possibly be given a new contract as a number of media reports have hinted at the possibility of the management starting a formal negotiation process towards that end in the near future.
Matt has recently expressed his ignorance about the matter of talks, whether his agent and the team are talking about renewal of his terms.
He, however, insisted that he would like to have a new deal from the team, and even though he has not mentioned expecting a raise in the payout, the contract’s negotiations appear set to focus the aspect more than anything else.
Schaub’s current deal, which was spanned over six years worth $48 million, has entered last year of the tenure. The player is expected to earn about $7.15 million for the remaining period.
The incumbent is hoping to return from a Lisfranc injury, he had suffered almost halfway through the 2011 season, by training camp next month. There is certainly encouraging news for the team as the QB recently showed up on the field and
took part in some workout with his senior colleagues.
His presence in the squad is going to be very important for Texans this season, since they are coming out in the 2012 season as Super Bowl contenders. He is out of the team since having a surgery to repair the foot injury on November 13,
2011.
If Texans land him a new deal it should certainly be a great boost for his comeback. Although the management or the player’s agent has not confirmed any progress towards the end officially, the latest reports have increased the optimism
around the possibility.
Irrespective of the possibility of any development on the end, the player, unlike some of his counterparts in the league, has not sounded to be threatening to skip the training camp, which starts next month.
Yet Texans know he is a crucial part of the squad and would not like to leave the matter of his deal to develop into some sort of controversy. The player can expect a deal hammered out for him any time in the near future.
