Reports hints at Indianapolis Colts definite about singing top draft in 2012 NFL season– NFL Update
The Indianapolis Colts are reported to be definite about signing the top draft pick when the next regular season kicks off later this year.
Reports in some sections of the media have quoted sources saying that the Colts owner, Jim Irsay, is up to the challenge of capitalising on the opportunity at all costs.
The Colts with only two wins in 16 games have finished the 2011 regular season of the National Football League (NFL), the American professional football league, at the lower bottom, and courtesy of their poor performance stand eligible for the top draft
prize.
However, there has been no statement confirming or at least indicating that they will recruit the draft player into their side before commencement of the NFL regular season this year.
Stanford College’s quarterback, Andrew Luck, has emerged as an undisputed top draft pick this year. The player has already confirmed going pro for the next NFL regular season, and apparently has no specific team on the mind to start his professional career
with.
According to the NFL draft rules, the Colts are leading contenders to take Luck on board, but the side has not spoken a single word about their decision on the potential singing.
One of the problems that the Colts’ owner faces is the possibility of a comeback of their regular QB, Peyton Manning, from his neck surgery, and their choice who to keep and who to exit.
Manning is into his 15th straight season with the Indianapolis Colts and the team is reported to be interested in seeking to relieve him with their draft pick.
However, both, Peyton Manning and the Colts owner Irsay, have shown interest in him continuing playing football with the Colts during more seasons to come.
Irsay, in a statement earlier, said that if Peyton was back to play football another season, it will be with the Colts, and Manning apparently happy with the developments in the Indianapolis.
The Colts owner last week said that he will be meeting Manning within a week to discuss his future, which will set their future courses. It is yet to be seen what an outcome of the planned meeting remains.
It is expected that it might be after the meeting that the Colts will come out with a clearer strategy with the singing of Luck and their decision on Manning’s football future.
Manning did not play any game for the Colts in the NFL’s 2011 regular season due to his neck surgery.
The team, however, kept him on the active roster hopping he might be able to return at some point of the season, boosting their squad and chances for a win.
They could not pull off a win in first 13 games of the regular season, which was their first without Peyton Manning at the starting position. Their first victory came in game 14 of the league.
It was their poor performance that has made them eligible for the top draft pick. However, they are yet to confirm if and when they will go to avail the opportunity.
One of other options that Irsay will have is to sign Luck and trade him with any other franchise of the NFL, if they continue to stick with Manning.
There are also reports that they might keep both QBs in their side, playing side besides provided that the players, who both stand out to be stars for their performance in their respective leagues and teams, do not have an objection or problem in playing
alongside each other.
Bill Polian, the Colts ousted vice chairman, had at least hinted at such prospects as to keeping both QBs at their pay roster, claiming they can afford it.
However, sacking Manny will be  unclear if Irsay will find this option viable for himself.
