Reports link Tennessee Titans to pursuing signing of Philadelphia Eagles QB Asante Samuel-NFL News
A few days after the Tennessee Titans settled down with their unsuccessful pursuit of Indianapolis Colts’ former quarterback, Peyton Manning, the team is said to be interested in signing Philadelphia Eagles’ QB, Asante Samuel.
Some sections of media have quoted anonymous sources disclosing that a deal between the two teams on trade of the player is expected in the next few days.
None of those reports have thrown a light on the possible terms of the deal that both teams are expected to negotiate for facilitating arrival of Samuel in Tennessee.
This development has surfaced a couple of days after owner, Bud Adams, backed Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker to be their quarterbacks for the future.
Adams’ remarks came following his admission that the management by seeking to hire Peyton had put both QBs in a difficult situation.
Now, local media reports in Tennessee and Philadelphia have respectively confirmed Titans’ interests in Samuel. The player himself is said to be watching the progress from the sidelines.
He said:
“At this point, the Philadelphia Eagles are driving the train. They don't have to do anything. They have always been very professional about their business, and we would expect them to continue to be."
It is difficult to ascertain at the moment how much success chances are there for Titans, but if they are able to sign the player, their quarterback situation will be again left to a controversy at the starting position.
Both, Hasselbeck and Locker, are already competing for the role, according the team’s coach, Mike Munchak, and it is difficult to speculate if Samuel will be placed at the number one position.
In any case, it is going to be very tough situation for Titans’ quarterbacks.
Hasselbeck has already expressed his frustration over going through a phase of uncertainty in the wake of the team’s moves to bring a new QB to the squad.
Hasselbeck, in one of his recent remarks, admitted that he had given a thought for seeking release from Titans during Manning’s chase.
With that opportunity gone without any avail, the QB seems to have been content with the situation at the offensive line. He admitted to be under pressure from Manning talk but added he understood that any team would be interested in negotiating a deal with
the player of Peyton Manning’s calibre and stature.
Now, he is back to face another similar situation and has not presented his stance on the latest efforts from the management for signing a new QB.
It could be due to the fact that even Titans have not confirmed their interest in signing Samuel officially.
