Reports reveal Kimi Raikkonen wants to join Williams – Formula 1 news
The 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen is keen to join Williams according to a report.
This was revealed by BBC Sport on Thursday, September 22, 2011.
These sorts of reports also surfaced near the end of the 2010 Formula 1 season which Raikkonen bluntly rejected stating that he does not want to join the sport anytime soon and was happy with what he was doing.
Back in 2010, there were rumours that the Finn wanted to become a part of Lotus Renault GP which is clearly a better team than Williams as they have been scoring much better results statistically since the past couple of years.
Williams on the other hand are at the brink of their decline but the team claims that they are making their feet more stable for the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season. They also said that they have made some major managerial changes within the team.
Either way, if the former world champion does somehow return to the sport, then he would replace Rubens Barrichello most probably who claims that his seat is not in danger at all.
“Right now is a big time for rumours and there is no point. My Twitter [account] is going crazy with people asking things. Whatever people say about me is not true, so I cannot rely on other information about other drivers. Whenever I meet with my family,
they ask me crazy things that they read in the press. To say something now will make more fuss,” said Barrichello.
This means that if Raikkonen joins the team, he would race alongside rookie teammate Pastor Maldonado who became a part of the team in 2011. He has not been able to prove his worth in the sport mainly because of the fact that the team did not produce a promising
car as a result of which they are struggling in 9th place in the constructors’ standings.
Williams’ chances of catching up with its rivals are quite low and it seems that they might have to finish this season in a disappointing manner similar to their season start this year as well.
