Reports tip former Pittsburgh Steelers WR Limas Sweed joining Cincinnati Bengals-NFL News
Former Pittsburgh Steelers’ receiver, Limas Sweed, is hoping for another and lasting beginning to his professional career, most probably at the Cincinnati Bengals.
A couple of reports have linked the player to have worked out for Bengals on Friday, April 13, 2012 and he is expected to reach a deal with the team pretty soon.
Sweed is an unrestricted free agent since his release by Steelers in 2011. His professional career has remained affected by injuries for most of the time since his arrival in Pittsburgh as a draft pick in 2008.
He has not been able to play a game or practise since suffering the injury of torn Achilles' tendon before start of the 2010 NFL season. He was placed on the injured reserve list and released before the start of the 2011 season.
The receiver has remained on and off the squad due to the lingering injuries problem. He has managed to play only 11 games since becoming a pro in 2008.
Now he looks to be fit and certain to start his career from beginning and hopes this time around he remains consistent with his health and fitness.
Since report of his rehab and fitness, the player has attracted interest from a number of teams and as of the latest, some reports have disclosed him working out for Bengals.
Officially, there is no confirmation of the workout by either side.
It is difficult to ascertain his chances in wooing Bengals.
Some commentators believe he is most likely to be landed a deal by Bengals. They pinpointed the fact that Sweed became pro as high-profile player but unfortunately his career has never got off because of the injury problems.
There is no issue of talent or potential with regard to Sweed, they said. However, the team signing him will need to understand that the player is coming out from a rather unpleasant experience of the injury and they should be patient with him and offer
him a substantial amount of time to get himself immersed into the game once again.
While playing the college league from the University of Texas, Sweed racked up 1,915 receiving yards. His record also included 20 touchdowns.
Given his talent and skill level, he was one of the bright draft prospects in 2008, but the initial phase of his professional career turned out to the lowest point of his life.
In case of reaching a deal with Bengals, Sweed is expected to join the team from the offseason.
The Cincinnati Bengals made it to the playoffs last season and are hoping for an even better performance this year. The players like Sweed are going to be an important member of the squad provided he is able to win a contract from them.
