Reports unearth possibility of Shane Doan nearly becoming member of Philadelphia Flyers –NHL Update
Recent reports by CSNPhilly have shown that they believe Shane Doan was barely an inch away from becoming a member of the Philadelphia Flyers as pictures of mock jerseys with his name on them emerged from his agent on Instagram.
The revelations were made after the veteran captain re-signed with his original team, the Phoenix Coyotes, but it has now come out to be true that he almost did join another organization, which shatters many claims by experts that he was not even considering
and the threats were just made to gather some attention.
The 36-year-old veteran right winger was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets as the seventh overall back in round-one of the 1995 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft. He played a single season with the Jets and moved on to the Coyotes after the franchise was
declared defunct.
A number of clubs were believed to have been on the lookout for the veteran who led the Phoenix Coyotes to the top of the Pacific Division for the first time in franchise history and the Western Conference Finals as well. He has shown himself to be a leader
which the Phoenix Coyotes cannot bear losing as veterans like Ray Whitney have already left over the offseason.
Vancouver Canucks were also seen as another franchise that had Doan on the radar and were working hard towards securing some top level talent as they yearn for a Stanley Cup championship and locking him on could have meant another chance at making a run
for the most coveted prize in the hockey world as well.
Last season proved to be another top level one for the veteran, even though it was not his best, but proved that he still does have a lot of fight in him with 50 points (22 goals, 28 assists) in 79 games played with 48 minutes of penalty time.
In a total of 1,198 games played up until now, Shane Doan boasts a record of 788 points (318 goals, 470) assists to be ranked as one of the best in history and is certainly a major asset for the Glendale based Phoenix Coyotes club.
