not confusing the two.

Is there a maximum I'm alllowed to have in savings or investments of any kind? Someone here answered $2,000, but that's Welfare. I looked all over the SocSec website, but was unable to find an answer to this question. Does anybody know?

  1. I am familiar with SSI requirements, and there is a limit on savings.  If monies are received while on SSI the monthly payment is revoked to equal what was received.  SSD is different.  They are more focused on "can you work".  I agree the SS website does not directly address this question.  I believe your answer comes under income received from working.  They will assume any increase in income you have was due to working.  In the case of SSI that is "gotten around" through the setting up of special needs trust funds.  The individuals I am aware of that do work (and there is info on the SS site about this) work for themselves, under the table.  SS deals with self-employment, and do have a formula for reducing benefits as income increases.....best to ask a SS specialist, as in the end it's all reported to IRS, which shares info with SS.  (psychologist and retired IBMer who worked to set up sharing of databases)

  2. And you are asking this on the Oz board for what reason?

  3. No limit, for SSDI.

  4. no its not welfare,,you had to work to get ssi or if your disabled you didnt have to work..it comes out of your taxes while you worked and your entitled to it,,that's what its there for,,in case your no able to work.. welfare is for someone who doesn't want to work.. whole different thing..SSI is different than the other,, but i think you can have a savings of that and are allowed to make so much without losing your check,,it should be one one of your papers they gave you when you applied..
