Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso completes successful test day at Mugello – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso completed 66 laps in the official MotoGP test at Mugello, claiming it to be a successful test session.
Dovizioso was ecstatic after a strong second place finish at the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM. It was the first time in the 2011 season when the Italian rider finished ahead of teammate Casey Stoner.
Repsol Honda rider, Andrea Dovizioso said, “It was a very good test day. I was very motivated from yesterday’s result so as soon as I went on track, I rode consistently at a good pace in the mid 1'48's with used hard tyres. We worked on engine braking and
improved the stability and then we tested a new swing arm, which gave positive feedback.”
The Italian rider also tried the new swing arm on his RC212V which provided great results. The team’s aim was also to improve stability under braking as Yamaha have the benefit in corner braking.
Dovizioso added, “I think we are going to use it in Sachsenring because with the new swing arm lap times come easier even if the bike moves more in the rear. I’m still not so strong with the soft tyres, but I’m very happy with my feeling of the bike.”
In contrast to his Australian teammate, Dovizioso worked hard to improve his RCV race setup and sorted many problems out with his factory Honda RC212V. The new swing arm is expected to be put in use at the upcoming German Grand Prix as it has given positive
results to the Repsol trio. Their lap times significantly improved with a lot less effort.
Dovizioso is aiming for the German Grand Prix as the Sachsenring circuit is a different layout compared to Mugello. The German circuit demands a different setup to cope up with its corners and track conditions.
The Italian rider was pleased with the race weekend at his home event and the following official test session. After collecting 20 points in the Italian GP, he seems to be headed in the right direction for the world title.
