Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso earns second podium of 2011 season – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso scored the second place on the podium in the AirAsia British Grand Prix on Sunday.
It is the Italian’s second podium finish in the 2011 MotoGP season. Dovizioso’s first podium finish was at Le Mans where he also finished second. The Repsol Honda duo maintained the lead throughout the 18 laps in the 20-lap race at Silverstone.
Dovizioso said, “It’s a second place that feels like gold. The track conditions were very tricky, with much more water than in the warm up this morning. We made a modification on the set up to have more rear grip and that was a very good strategy.”
He further commented on the race conditions and said, “It helped us doing two laps before the race to bring the tyres up to temperature quicker. I had a very good start, and then I focused to manage the second position with Casey. I was braking very hard
to close the doors to Lorenzo and Simoncelli.”
The Italian rider in the Repsol Honda squad was placed fifth to start the race, but he jumped to the third position right at the start behind teammate Stoner. The Repsol Honda duo was following the Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo. The Spaniard
led the race for a couple of corners in the first lap and soon was overtaken by Dovizioso first and then by Stoner.
The Italian further said that he was riding well with a short gap from Casey Stoner. The Aussie was riding with full concentration to open the gap from the rider behind. He also praised his team’s effort to give him a competitive race setup which worked
in wet conditions.
The Repsol Honda duo maintained its dominancy and will be preparing for the next race at Assen, Netherlands. Their third teammate Dani Pedrosa is expected to get back on track at the same event as well.
