Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso heading to LCR Honda for 2012 MotoGP season – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda team rider Andrea Dovizioso is expected to close a deal with LCR Honda team for the upcoming 2012 MotoGP season.
The situation was created after HRC decided to maintain only three bikes on the MotoGP grid for the 2012 season. At present, the HRC is supporting six RCVs on the MotoGP grid from which four are running on factory setup and two with satellite setup.
LCR Honda boss Lucio Cecchinello said, “From our side it is clear that we consider this as the best opportunity for us to make a big step forward. Andrea has already showed that he has top potential and it would be an honour to be able to work with him next
season.”
Presently, the Italian rider is running very strong in the season and holds the third position on the championship points table. He leads his teammate Dani Pedrosa with 33 points.
Although he is 50 points off from championship leader, teammate Casey Stoner but his frequent visit to podium highlights his true potential.
Dovizioso has finished many races on the podium along with his Australian teammate. Most surprisingly, Dovizioso was also able to finish ahead of his teammate Stoner at Mugello. It is the only race so far that he finished above Stoner.
Cecchinello said, “It is quite a complicated operation because Andrea is supported with a factory bike in a factory team and of course he would like to continue to have the best material and a bigger structure than we have at the moment. It is something
that we working on and we are proposing and discussing this project with our sponsors.”
The team boss is pleased to close a possible deal with the Italian rider. The most important factor is that he has been riding a Honda RCV which he will also be able to enjoy at the LCR team.
However, the setup would not be as amazing as the factory team but Cecchinello is trying his best to upgrade the team as well. The LCR team is highly determined to call in Dovizioso for the 2012 season.
