Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso maintains championship position with 4th place finish in Germany
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso held on to his third place in world championship points table with a fourth place finish in the recently held eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.
The ninth MotoGP event was held at German track, Sachsenring.
Dovizioso said, “It was a tough race because this circuit is small and difficult. Our target was the podium so I’m a little disappointed with fourth position, but if we look at today's race in a bigger perspective, we took a big step forward in terms of
race pace compared to my previous records at this circuit.”
The Italian rider first time stood off the podium after three podium finishes in a row at Silverstone, Assen and Mugello. To date he has four podium places in the 2011 MotoGP season.
The Italian was placed at sixth position on the grid for the German Grand Prix but from the start, he jumped into the top five riders and fought a fourth place battle with compatriot Marco Simoncelli of San Carlo Honda Gresini. At a moment in the race, all
three Repsol riders were running in line behind Jorge Lorenzo and following them was Simoncelli.
Dovizioso further commented on the race fight as he said, “We had a good start and tried to stay with the front riders. It was a good battle with Simoncelli and Spies for fourth position and I’m happy we won this battle! We were consistently fast during
the whole weekend and even though today we were struggling, we finished fourth.”
The Italian rider has once again shown his competitiveness in the MotoGP action held at Sachsenring. Dovizioso stands third with 23 points behind Jorge Lorenzo who covers the second seat in the point standings. The present MotoGP championship leader is Casey
Stoner with a 15-point lead from the Spaniard.
The team is little disappointed in terms of not finishing on the podium but gaining less points. Dovizioso also appreciated the effort of Dani to win the race and the counter fight given by Stoner and Lorenzo.
The Repsol Honda team will be now heading to United States for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix due to take place at Laguna Seca.
