Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso offered seat by Ducati for 2012 season – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso will complete his contract term with HRC by the end of 2011.
For the 2012 MotoGP season the Italian riders needs a seat to compete. In order to pick the rising star, Ducati has offered a seat at its satellite team Pramac Racing or Mapfre Aspar team.
Dovizioso is free to choose from the options offered by Ducati, but the Italian rider is conscious about the tough time Ducati is going through. Another attractive point for Dovizioso is that he will be also booked for the 2013 season.
Andrea Dovizioso talked to GPone.com during a visit to a new Honda dealership in Rome and said, “The situation with Ducati? We are talking with them as well, because I'm at a fortunate moment in my career where I have the possibility to speak with Honda,
Yamaha, Suzuki and Ducati. In many ways I see Ducati as a very interesting team, because they have the same mentality that I do.”
An important point for Dovizioso is the changes being experienced by the Italian manufacturer. Currently the team is geared up to develop its Desmosedici GP12 for the next season, but looking at the evolvement of GP11.1, it is a little difficult for him
to take any risks.
During the 2011 season, he has been performing with renewed confidence and optimally using the Honda RC212V. He has secured several podium finishes in the ongoing season.
Andrea Dovizioso said, “The idea is honestly attractive and fascinating to me, but I think it's a risk that doesn't make much sense considering that I believe the option will be open to me in another year, or further in the future.”
At the moment, the Italian rider thinks that he can prove his presence in MotoGP and efficiently take a decision for the next season. The most considerable point in the offered contract is that they end with the 2012 season and the extension is based on
season’s performance.
Keeping Ducati’s performance in the season so far, Dovizioso is still unsure about a seat with the team. Let’s see if he decides to race for them in the 2012 season.
