Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso ready to gain on Jorge Lorenzo at Motorland Aragon – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso is aiming to surpass Yamaha factory rider Jorge Lorenzo at the Motorland Aragon.
The Italian rider is focused to finish the 14th MotoGP event on the podium and close the points’ gap from the Spaniard.
Dovizioso said, “We arrive in Aragón third in the Championship looking to close the gap to Lorenzo in second, but also needing to defend from Dani in fourth. I like Motorland Aragón, the circuit is very nice and it’s fun to ride.”
Dovizioso has been not able to score a podium finish in recent races but now it is getting more important to finish in top three slots. Italian’s teammate Dani Pedrosa is closing in on him and stands only 35 points apart.
Therefore, Dovizioso strongly needs to score podium points in next races. Aragon is one of his favourite tracks which will be a plus point for the Italian. Currently, Dovizioso is at third place in the MotoGP championship with 185 points which makes him
39 points adrift of Lorenzo.
Dovizioso added, “The key characteristic is the downhill braking areas and it has some similarities to the Istanbul circuit with interesting corners and changes of direction. It’s not so fast but all in all I like to race there. Last year it was a new track
so I think that with one year of experience we can be even more competitive.”
The Italian rider commented on the circuit and said that the track consists of mixed sections. Some corners are taken on high speed and the others are slow. It also holds some similarity with the Turkish MotoGP venue.
He also recalled his 2010 race at Aragon when he crashed in the last lap. While battling for fifth position with Ben Spies, the Italian rider crashed out in the final lap of the race.
This time, Dovizioso claims to be more confident which is clear from his season’s performance since the start of 2011. The Italian has been riding in the top rider’s pack in most races and stood faster than fellow Honda factory rider Marco Simoncelli.
