Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso regrets first DNF of 2011 season at Motorland Aragon GP – MotoGP
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso has expressed his annoyance about the crash in the first lap of the Gran Premio de Aragon.
It was his first ‘did not finish’ status in the 2011 MotoGP season.
However, fortunately, he sustains the third position in 2011 MotoGP championship. Dovizioso is now 15 points ahead of his teammate Dani Pedrosa, which urges him to finish on podium in the next races.
Dovizioso said, “Leaving Aragon without scoring any points is also so bad for the championship. We are still third with 15 points advantage over Dani, but now we need to return on the podium and have good results. Last year we had a strong end of the season,
especially in Japan and Malaysia, so I look forward to the next GPs.”
While talking about the accident he said it was a hard try with cold tyres which cost him the race. He slid the bike in the first right corner and lost the weight which made the bike to lose ground.
Dovizioso added, “I made a small but fast slide at the first right turn, all the weight went on the front, I wasn't able to control the bike and I immediately lost it as the front tyre was still not at temperature.”
The Italian rider shared his disappointment on finishing his race with a disaster, especially after a hard weekend.
The morning warm up session was conducted on used tyres which disturbed his rhythm for the race. However, the Italian Repsol rider started the race with a strong focus to finish into the top three slots. Dovizioso surely had the pace to fight for the podium
finish but the crash ruined the race day.
He also praised the teamwork which provided a great race setup and stood strong through the weekend.
He was relieved to sustain his third position on the championship points’ table. With a reduced points’ gap, he aims to claim podium finishes in the upcoming events. It is also necessary in order to strengthen his case for a 2012 season seat.
