Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso shares his sympathies on Marco Simoncelli’s death – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso has offered his sympathies on the death of his compatriot, Marco Simoncelli of the San Carlo Honda Gresini team.
Dovizioso had a good acquaintance with Simoncelli from their childhood racing era.
Dovizioso said, “In these circumstances, words don't seem to be appropriate. I think of Marco's family and all the people dear to him, in particular his father and mother. I also have a child and what happened today is the hardest situation you can imagine.”
Both Italian riders have raced together as rivals in many classes to their way into the premier class. In the ongoing 2011 season, several times both Italians were engaged in fight for position in the race.
Dovizioso expressed his views about Simoncelli’s riding style. He said that Super Sic used to ride with an aggressive way that made him crash several times. Since the junior class racing he pushed hard and crashed but never had a serious injury.
It looked like he enjoyed his racing style and his passion was unaffected by any crash. However, the fatal crash was not his day. He was strong during the weekend, riding close to factory Honda riders.
The 2011 season blessed him with first two podiums in his MotoGP career. The recent at Phillip Island where he finished at improved second place on the podium was a sheer joyful moment for the rider.
Dovizioso added on, “I watched the images and I'm shocked. In a race you fight and push hard and disaster is often around the corner. Marco was a strong rider and he always pushed hard. We raced together since we were kids. I saw him always pushing to the
maximum, he crashed many times, but without major injuries.”
On the other side, the rising MotoGP star was heavily criticised due to his aggressive racing tactics. At the French GP, he crashed Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda that ended up in a fracture for the Spaniard.
Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha factory team had a few unpleasant encounters with the Italian and objected his riding style. During the Assen event, Simoncelli crashed ahead of Lorenzo and swept him along.
The incident happened at the Malaysian GP was unbelievable for the fellow riders, his family, fans and for the whole paddock.
