Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso squeezes into second position at Italian GP – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso squeezed into second place on the podium in the last few laps at the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM on Sunday.
After his win, Dovizioso said, “Mugello is always a special event and the feeling on the podium is unbelievable. Today I was the first and only Italian rider on the podium and this makes the result even more special.”
Dovizioso’s countrymen gave him courage to do well in the race. The fans helped him to make an effort beyond his limits. Dovizioso was tired due to the hot and dry weather at Mugello and the circuit temperature was rising as well. It made the Italian rider
to sustain his long held third position in the race, but the adrenaline rush pushed him further.
There were also some changes made in the race settings for the final race to gain the stability on the front end of his RCV. The changes helped the rider to improve his ride from the machine.
Dovizioso added, “We made a good start and we were able to be consistent for the whole race despite the fact there was not so much grip and the tyres were spinning. In the first part of the race I had some good battles with Jorge for the second position.
Then, at the end of the race, overtaking Casey gave me the second place.”
The Italian rider said that Casey Stoner was in his sight during the race and he was watching him struggling with his massive tyre spin. As he was stronger in the corners, he availed the opportunity and did not let any one go past him.
The second place finish is vital for Dovizioso to get closer to the 2011 championship title. With 20 points, he has reduced that gap from the rider ahead him in the points table. Now he is only 14 points adrift of Jorge Lorenzo.
Although his teammate Casey Stoner and Yamaha factory rider Jorge Lorenzo are really fast but the second place finish states that Andrea Dovizioso is close on their tails.
