Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso takes fifth seat at US Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso finished the US Grand Prix in fifth place held at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Though the Italian held fourth place for the majority of the race but with three laps on the countdown he was attacked by Ben Spies of Yamaha Factory Racing team due to which he lost one position.
Dovizioso said, “We knew that it was going to be a tough race because this track is short, with very strong braking and it's also very demanding. I made a good start and I was able to move into fourth position. In the first laps I pushed hard to stay with
Casey, Dani and Lorenzo.”
The Italian rider said, “I was losing a lot in some corners, such as T3 and T11 and to recover I was pushing in the other areas. I used up a lot of energy and I couldn’t be consistent for the 32 laps.”
Dovizioso was disappointed with the loss in the final moments because he had a strong pace to fight for a podium finish. In fact, he lapped two tenths slower than Stoner’s best shot at Laguna Seca. Unfortunately, he was not able to sustain pace in the 32-lap
long race.
Dovizioso further added that he regrets to lose a battle after such a strong race-long defence against Ben Spies for the fourth position. It is the first time in the season that Dovizioso has lost a place after a tough battle.
Improving the race pace last weekend was a point of satisfaction for the Italian and his team. The Italian maintains his third position in the world championship points table whereas his teammate Casey Stoner has increased his lead from 15 to 20 points from
Jorge Lorenzo.
Now Dovizioso is keener to continue his fight for the 2011 MotoGP World Championship. Taking full advantage of the three-week break before the eleventh MotoGP round at Brno, Czech Republic, the Repsol Honda team rider will intensively prepare to strike back
for better results.
