Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso unwilling to leave HRC for 2012 season – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso is unwilling to leave Honda Racing Corporation for the 2012 MotoGP season.
However, he will soon decide whether to seal a deal with LCR Honda or move to Monster Yamaha Tech3 team.
The Italian rider is expected to come to reach a decision by the end of this week. After scoring a fifth place finish in the recent Japanese Grand Prix, he is a little disappointed and feels it is not an appropriate time to leave HRC.
Andrea Dovizioso shared his views with Motorcyclenews.com and said, “It is difficult because my feeling with Honda now is the best compared to the last nine years because now I am fighting for the victory. It is hard but it depends on a lot of situations
and right now I haven’t decided anything.”
Tech3 team boss, Herve Poncharal has openly offered the Italian to team up with MotoGP rookie Cal Crutchlow for 2012. Dovizioso has been highly competitive in the 2011 season earning a good name for team offers.
Though the Japanese GP was filled with incidents and Dovizioso had to face a ‘ride through’ penalty, he still made it back to the top riders’ pack. He also fought hard with fellow RCV rider Marco Simoncelli but lost the fight in the last lap.
Dovizioso has earned five podium finishes in the season and efficiently stood in top five places for the majority of races. However, without win in the season, he stands at third position in the world championship points’ table.
Dovizioso further said, “Sure I think about this. When you’re fast you have a lot of possibilities and if I am fast with Yamaha next year then sure I will have the chance to be in the factory team and this is the target of every rider.”
The offer by Poncharal is termed as very impressive. Apparently, Dovizioso will sign a one-season contract for Tech3 and ensure a Yamaha factory seat for the 2013 MotoGP season. The 2012 season will mark the comeback for 1000cc machines and Dovizioso is
anxiously looking forward to it.
