Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner aims to collect fifth win at Phillip Island event – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner is looking forward to extend his winning streak to five at the Australian MotoGP event.
The 16th premier class event will take place at Phillip Island on October 16, 2011.
Stoner expressed that he is always looking forward to race at his home ground in the season. He loves to race at Phillip Island along some other tracks in the season like Brno and Mugello. This will be his first outing with Honda at his home event.
Stoner said, “I love coming back home to race in Australia, it's always a lot of fun and we don't get to visit so often, as well as the track, the general atmosphere is incredible and I always enjoy the weekend as a whole and the fans are fantastic.”
Previously in his racing career, he has won four races at Phillip Island in a row aboard Ducati machine. At the start of the season, he joined Honda and since has been the most successful rider of 2011.
Stoner said, “The season has been fantastic so far and we'll be looking to continue this momentum. If we can top it off with a win in Phillip Island, my home grand prix it would be a dream. It will be a long hard weekend, and there is still a lot of work
to do to win the championship, but we're ready for it.”
The Aussie rider is holding a 40-point lead over the title contender and defending world champion Jorge Lorenzo. Stoner has collected eight wins and with at least ten points, he can secure his championship title for 2011.
There are still 75 points left on the championship to be collected, however if Stoner wins and Lorenzo misses podium, he can be the 2011 world champion at his home ground on his 26th birthday.
Stoner hopes to experience a good race weekend after facing an unexpected mistake in the race. He expressed that he is determined to win the event which he wanted to do in Japan.
