Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner confirms retirement from MotoGP – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda Team rider Casey Stoner has announced that he is going to take retirement from the sport at the end of 2012 MotoGP season.
The Australian rider is currently leading the riders’ championship. He secured third podium finish in the season opener held at Losail Circuit in Qatar. Afterwards, he took amazing victories in the second and third race held at Jerez Circuit in Spain and
Estoril Circuit in Portugal. Moreover, he is just one point ahead of Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing.
However, the two-time world champion has declared that he has made the decision not to take part in the next season after discussing all the matters regarding his career with his family.
“After a long time thinking, a lot of time talking with my family and my wife, this has been coming for a couple of years now but at the end of this 2012 season I will be not racing in the 2013 Championship. I will be finishing my career at the end of this
season in MotoGP, and go forward in different things in my life,” he said.
Furthermore, he expressed that he has lived like a star in the sport and now he doesn’t feel passionate about it. In addition, he said that there have been some drastic changes in MotoGP over the last few years due to which it is has become lesser attractive
to him than before.
On the other hand, the defending champion said that he has made some huge sacrifices in his personal life so as to give his due attention to the game but now he wants to spend some quality time with his wife and children, therefore, he has decided to leave
as this season ends.
He added, “There are a lot of things that have disappointed me, and also a lot of things I have loved about this sport, but unfortunately the balance has gone in the wrong direction.”
Even though, the double world champion said that the fans may feel pleasant if he had planned to stay for another season but he asserted that it seemed better to say goodbye after this year.
