Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner determined to push for title win until Valencia - MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner is determined to fight for the 2011 MotoGP title until the Valencia round.
The Australian rider is passionate to add on to his victory count of 8 for the 2011 season. Stoner will still grab the title if he stands third in each race left in the season. However, he is not likely to do this and will aim for wins.
Stoner said, “It's a really healthy situation at this moment, but anything can happen. Jorge's there week in, week out. If we make any mistake he's going to pounce on that.”
The Aussie Repsol rider is leading the championship with 44 points. However, he wants to win his title by his home event at Phillip Island. With double wins from Japan and Australia Grands Prix, he will be free of chase for the next two final rounds of the
season.
Stoner added, “But like this weekend (at Aragon), we'll be going out there to try and win. We're not going to just settle for positions to try and get points. We want a little bit more than that. It can change around very quickly.”
The situation in the championship is very critical. Although he stands ahead with 44 points but his Yamaha rival Jorge Lorenzo is hungry for wins. If Lorenzo manages a couple of wins and on the other side Stoner tends to fail in the heat, the lead will shift
drastically.
Considering the 2010 Motegi event, he said that it was his best race of the season. In 2010, Lorenzo was holding on to a big lead in the championship whereas Dani Pedrosa was out due to an injury during the practice session.
Presently, the situation is totally different. Championship runner up, Jorge Lorenzo is in need to score wins and Dani Pedrosa is competing with an improved form. Most importantly, Pedrosa has the same RCV as Stoner which reduces the margin of error. Both
Spaniards are ready to hunt down Stoner for the next four events of the season.
