Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner hopeful of doing well in the Italian Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner is hopeful of doing well in the upcoming Italian Grand Prix despite finishing second at the recent Dutch GP in Assen.
Stoner is leading the 2011 MotoGP season with a 28-point lead from second placed Jorge Lorenzo.
He said that after a tough race weekend in Assen, he is more eager and determined to put his whole effort in the preparations. He hoped that while maintaining his lead in the championship standings, he will steam up the work for better results from Mugello
and will continue to extend it.
Stoner said, “I'm really looking forward to Mugello, especially after a difficult weekend at Assen where I was extremely happy to have finished second in a very difficult race. Last year, we didn't get the best result [in Italy], but I've always enjoyed
this circuit.”
Stoner is keen to perform well at the Italian circuit and regain the position to be the benchmark holder.
At Assen, he was struggling to keep his bike on track and trying hard to catch Ben Spies. However, the track was very slippery and did not allow any factory or satellite Hondas to increase the pace.
The Aussie rider commented on the Mugello circuit and said, “From what I've heard, the new surface is a lot smoother and a lot faster, which will make Mugello an even better circuit from what it already was! I've been excited about coming here to try it
out! I'm hoping to have a good race and score important points for the championship, but we need to keep our heads down and continue working hard.”
The Aussie’s teammate, Andrea Dovizioso is consistently improving his pace. The Italian rider is making podium finishes more frequent and with the Mugello event coming up, he is more desperate to do well.
The most awaited comeback of the season is of his Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa, who got his right collarbone fractured at the Le Mans round. The crash occurred after Marco Simoncelli rushed into Pedrosa for a nasty overtake.
Let’s see how the upcoming event of the MotoGP season in Mugello fares.
