Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner hopes to score maiden podium at Indianapolis – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda team rider Casey Stoner is looking forward to stand on his first podium finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The 12th MotoGP event, the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix is due on August 28, 2011.
The Aussie rider is leading the MotoGP world championship with 32 points from Jorge Lorenzo. The 2010 Indy GP winner, Dani Pedrosa is not in full form to race for the victory but he will be looking to recreate the magic.
Stoner said, “In the past seasons the track at Indy has been extremely bumpy and also slightly dangerous so I'm looking forward to going there and riding the new surface. It will also be nice to ride the Honda there, as it took a lot of work to get the set
up right on the Ducati at such a peculiar circuit.”
During the 2010 Indy GP, riders complained that the track was too bumpy and made the race tough. Earlier in this season, the IMS officials decided to repave the track and update it for the 2011 Indy GP.
The repaving project was completed couple of months ahead of the event. The new surface is expected to relieve the riders and Stoner expects to aim for the win on the new surface.
Stoner said, “I've only ridden the circuit in 2008 and 2010 and we were pretty competitive there last year, but then I lost the front in the race, so it will be good to get there, test the new surface and get to work on the set up on my RC212V.”
The Australian rider crashed during the 2010 Indy event while riding for the Ducati team. Shortly after seven laps, he retired from the race.
Previously in his career he has visited IMS two times and has not scored any podium finish. He missed the 2009 Indy round due to health issues. In 2008, he finished fourth and in 2010, he ended up without points.
This time with Honda RC212V, Casey Stoner anticipates that he will not have to struggle hard for the win and the new surface will make it much easy.
