Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner leads the pack in first practice session of British Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner took the charge to lead the final time sheet of first free practice session of the AirAsia British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Friday.
The Repsol Honda riders were seen toggling at the top seat of time sheet. After a few laps, Casey Stoner gave his best shot to be classified as the fastest rider on track with a lap time of 2:03.748 seconds, which was a bench mark for the first free practice
session. The Aussie was alone to ride within the 2:04 seconds time barrier. His top speed was 311.4 km/h.
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider, Marco Simoncelli was roaring at the second spot on the final time sheet. He was fast in the recent Catalunya GP practice and qualifying session as well and started the race from pole position. The Italian gave his best shot
of 2:04.407 seconds for the second spot. Super Sic was the only rider to stay within a margin of a second from Casey Stoner.
Yamaha Factory Racing team rider, Jorge Lorenzo was able to score the third fastest place with a lap time of 2:04.756 seconds on his M1. The Spaniard was super fast and technically sound at the Silverstone circuit in the 2010 event. In 2011, it is expected
that Lorenzo will benefit due to his last season’s winning experience at the venue.
Ducati Team rider, Nicky Hayden marked fourth place on the time chart of the first free practice session at Silverstone. Despite being fourth, he was the fastest Ducati factory rider on the time sheet. His best lap time was 2:04.778 seconds. His teammate
Valentino Rossi was far apart on the 12th spot after the first practice session ended.
Stoner’s Repsol Honda teammate, Andrea Dovizioso was able to top the time chart in the initial part of the session. Eventually, the Italian’s fast lap was replaced by his teammate Stoner and the Aussie stood strong for the session. Dovizioso gave his best
lap time of 2:04.910 seconds and occupied the fifth position on the time sheet.
Cal Crutchlow, Ben Spies, Hector Barbera, Alvaro Bautista, Randy de Puniet completed the top ten slots respectively. Loris Capirossi faced a crash 15 minutes before the session ended and could not be classified.
