Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner leads warm up lap of upcoming British Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner led the rain interrupted warm-up lap for the AirAsia British Grand Prix on Sunday.
Defending world champion Jorge Lorenzo followed him in second position on Factory Yamaha YZR-M1. San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli was third with his RCV.
The light downpour made Sunday’s warm-up session radically slower than Saturday’s qualifying session. Australian Repsol Honda rider still managed to post the fastest time leaving fellow riders in tarmac mist. Stoner gave a shot of 2:19.071 seconds to clock
the best lap time at the wet Silverstone circuit.
Yamaha Factory Racing rider, Jorge Lorenzo was following the Aussie with a gap of 0.428 seconds. The Spaniard was seen faster than the Italian rider of Honda Gresini. Though Lorenzo was swiftly ahead of Marco Simoncelli in wet conditions, but he will start
the race from third position, last on the first row. Lorenzo’s effort for second spot was 2:19.499 seconds.
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli was third fastest on the wet track of Silverstone. The Italian’s best time was 2:20.599 seconds for the third seat in the warm up session. Simoncelli is expecting a tough fight for a podium finish but if rain
interrupts the British Grand Prix, the fight will get tougher for the Italian to manage a podium finish. In the last wet race at Jerez, Simoncelli retired while pushing hard for win.
Lorenzo’s teammate Ben Spies came fourth fastest in the warm-up session and will start the race from the same position. Spies was followed by Repsol Honda rider Andre Dovizioso in fifth place.
Rizla Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista claimed the sixth place in the warm up session and rode confidently on the wet track. Sixth place qualifier Cardion AB Motoracing rider, Karel Abraham was at seventh place in the session. Abraham’s sixth qualifying position
is his best race start in 2011.
Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi, who is actually 13th to start the British GP, was eighth in the wet warm up session. Rossi’s teammate Nicky Hayden was ninth behind the Italian. LCR Honda rider, Toni Elias was tenth in afternoon’s warm up session.
