Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner questions Ducati GP11.1 eligibility for 2011 season – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner has questioned the eligibility of the new Ducati GP11.1 for the 2011 MotoGP season.
The new updated version of the GP11 will appear at the Iveco TT Assen Grand Prix.
Stoner said, “If they are using parts this year that are going to be on next year's bike then I am not sure this should be allowed. Sure, the engine will be different but they are testing for next year so we should do the same with Honda.”
Although Stoner has won the 2007 season with Ducati but now he races for Repsol Honda. He questioned the legality of testing 2012 parts in the 2011 prototype within a race weekend. The Aussie is eager to know that either Ducati have bended the testing rules
or MotoGP officials have ignored the fact.
The Aussie added, “We found improvements with ours, if we did the same then it would be great but I don't think we are allowed to do this, maybe it's not correct. If they were developing this year's bike then it's fine but if they're using next year's bike
for this year.”
After the successful testing of the Ducati GP12 model, factory team riders approved the new 2012 MotoGP prototype. The new chassis, which has significantly enhanced the pace for Rossi, is combined with the present 800cc engine to race in the ongoing season.
The factory team has combined features from the GP12 with Rossi’s feedback and have included them in the GP11 to come up with GP11.1- a newer version of their 2011 bike which Rossi will use in Netherlands.
Stoner assumed that the improvements are clear and the Ducati team knows that the new chassis with a 1000cc combination is doing well. If the chassis works well with the 800cc power unit then the progress is definite. He added that it is a sensitive issue
that how the team surpassed the regulations.
The Aussie is clueless that why HRC has not taken this step. In his opinion, maybe Honda are not going for a chassis similar to the 2011 RC212V prototype.
Let’s see how the new Ducati fares at the Iveco TT Assen Grand Prix this weekend.
