Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner scores second position on the grid for Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda team rider Casey Stoner scored second place on the grid for Sunday’s Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix taking place at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
His last lap in the QP session earned him the second place which was apparently a difficult task for the Aussie as he lacked pace.
Stoner said, “For the whole session we were trying to find the right set up. All weekend we've been struggling a little and we've not found anything I'm comfortable with, I've closed the front many times and we're still looking to find some balance on the
bike to get it working on this track.”
The Australian rider struggled a lot to figure out the right setting for the track and his efforts prolonged due to insufficient results. Except for the first and third free practice sessions, he was struggling for pace. In comparison, his teammate, Dani
Pedrosa and Yamaha factory rider Jorge Lorenzo were maintaining high pace in all sessions.
The team was expecting to get the setup work well at Laguna Seca, but the issues were persistent despite changing the setup and balance of the bike. The Californian track is very tricky and the temperatures are also variable. However, the temperature availed
during the qualifying round was almost favourable for the race.
Stoner further said, “On my first soft tyre I encountered some traffic and was held up, also there was a crash and a yellow flag so I lost my chance on that tyre. Then on the next soft tyre we had one lap to find some pace and we managed front row which
is important for tomorrow.”
In Stoner’s opinion, he lacks the pace like Pedrosa and Lorenzo have. Both the top contenders seem to have advantage of two tenths over Stoner.
Still with a positive approach, he will finally try in the warm up session to fix the issues with his RCV.
