Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner set a new record at Mugello in the MotoGP official test.
The Aussie rider shredded seven tenths of his pole position lap time. His best shot was recorded at 1:47.326 seconds.
At the start of the test day, the track was a little dirty which caused Stoner to fall while cornering in the first turn. However, he was not injured after the minor crash.
Stoner said, “We had a few things to test here today, a new front tyre from Bridgestone which wasn't so different to the one we are currently using, perhaps just a little more contact feeling so it could be a good direction they are working in.”
He added, “We tested a new swing arm and had positive feedback, we found more traction and some more grip delivered a little earlier so I don't need to pick up the bike so much, which could help us in a track like Sachsenring where you spend a lot of time
on the edge.”
The Repsol Honda team did test its machines but to a limited extent. The Aussie’s RCV was almost similar to his race day settings. A few different components were tested with present settings which gave positive results and Stoner broke the record of the
fastest lap time at Mugello.
The new tested components included a new swing arm and a shortened rear suspension. With all of these components, the bike performed exceptionally well. He also tried the new Bridgestone tyres and they gave an enhanced ride feel. The tyre used in race days
was almost similar but the compound made the difference and it was another improvement.
The Australian rider completed 47 laps at the Mugello test and was the first one to start the run in the morning. His other teammates Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa were also strong at the test.
The team will be heading to Germany for the ninth MotoGP event due to take place at Sachsenring.
