Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner steals seventh victory in the 2011 season at Indy GP – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner rode up to his seventh win in the 2011 MotoGP season at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.
The Aussie rider started off from pole seat, but was dropped to third place behind teammate Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo. Shortly after two laps, Stoner claimed back his dominancy and led the race across the finish line.
Casey Stoner said, “We got an OK start and I should have been a little more aggressive in the first corner. As I entered turn two, Dani hit the brakes quite hard and I just had nothing, my brakes weren't warmed up yet and I had trouble stopping, I was lucky
to get through the first lap.”
Stoner gradually increased his pace and shot to increase the time gap once he took the lead. Behind him were Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies.
However, he steadily raced through the 28 laps, but still he claimed that he could have gone even faster if he started in an aggressive way.
The 2007 MotoGP World Champion, Stoner said, “The race was tough, conditions were very hot and the track surface a little more slippery than practice and qualifying which made things difficult to know how much to push.”
The Aussie MotoGP star further expressed his race situation at the IMS. Stoner said that apparently he was clueless about the limit to push his RCV.
Meanwhile pushing hard on a greasy tarmac, Stoner nearly crashed in a corner, when he lost his front end. He dropped his RCV on his knee but however he managed to claim it back and continued without losing confidence on the track. The track was greasier
than it was in qualifying round which left many riders confused about the race tactics.
From that incident, Stoner regained his confidence and started to push even harder and crossed Dani Pedrosa. Following his pass over Pedrosa, he set fast lap times which gave him unmatchable lead.
The IMS track conditions were most challenging, the bike worked better, and the crew worked hard to come up to this point of performance. After the Indy GP, Stoner also thanked his team for a marvellous job.
