Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner takes pole for Jerez MotoGP event – MotoGP news
The Australian rider, Casey Stoner of Repsol Honda Team, again proved his dominance and stole the pole position for the second consecutive time Jerez.
The 2011 MotoGP is proving to give the Repsol Honda riders the best possible results. After a pole position start, Stoner also swept the first MotoGP season race at Qatar, with only a single non-Honda rider sitting in second place was Jorge Lorenzo
of Yamaha Factory Racing. The Honda RC212V was covering four positions out of top-five places. Marco Simoncelli of San Carlo Honda Gresini closed the top five ranks.
Stoner set the fastest lap time of the weekend for the practice sessions and made it with 1:38.757 seconds on the clock. He was 0.158 seconds faster than his Repsol teammate Dani Pedrosa, who set an early pace for the Qualifying Practice.
Stoner was high on speed while entering the first turn of the circuit and ran into the gravel avoiding any fall, during the final moments of qualifying practice session. After that loss of time Stoner’s lap time was untouched and left him to start
with his 24th pole in MotoGP premier class.
The session was granted with cooler weather conditions comparatively to the Friday’s session when winds guzzled throughout the day. Jorge Lorenzo was the man to lead the session for most of the laps but still was not able to hit the fast times as Repsol
Honda rider Casey Stoner, with a delay of 0.161 seconds on the clock. His compatriot Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda team was also ahead of him with mere fraction of a second.
The Spanish boy, Pedrosa was seen improving his lap times in final free practice session. He improved his fastest lap time of Friday with shedding 0.7 seconds off, with new time being 1:38.864 seconds. He was ahead of his Australian teammate by 0.307
seconds.
Jerez is the circuit where Pedrosa has finished in top-two places in his all of his five MotoGP races there. Stoner is one rider who has not had some good finishes at Jerez, but with his pole seat and the victory of the first round at Losail circuit
of Qatar he will look ahead to extend his victory line. His victory at Losail makes him the only rider to win with two different manufacturers in the MotoGP 800cc era.
Ben Spies will be following his Yamaha Factory Racing teammate Lorenzo in fourth place on the starting grid. He was also a victim of turn one by crashing in last five minutes of the session but still maintained his place on the starting grid. Marco
Simoncelli of San Carlo Honda Gresini will be starting form fifth place in the Gran Premio bwin de Espana. Simoncelli was the third fastest Rc212V rider at the end of the session, with Andrea Dovizioso in sixth place.
