Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner takes pole for Motorland Aragon Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda riders Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso scored seats in the top five slots on the gird for the Motorland Aragon Grand Prix.
The Aussie snatched his season’s eighth pole seat for the third Spanish round of 2011. Currently, Stoner has seven wins from the 2011 MotoGP season.
Stoner said, “It was a very eventful qualifying session for us! Everything has been going very well this weekend, we have a good feeling with the bike and I'm feeling great. At the end of the session we put on the soft tyre and on the first lap I was a little
too cautious.”
After his tyre change, he was a little down on confidence due to inadequate tyre temperature. However, he had better grip than he expected.
Stoner then tried hard to put on a better lap time. Following his effort, he was able to push harder than before which almost secured his pole seat. He went fast through the second lap on soft slicks, but the tyres did not help him to slow down.
While trying to stop the bike he ran out of track and ended up in the gravel. He was out of runoff area and dropped the bike to avoid collision against the wall.
After the fallen bike did not restart, he lost the chance to rejoin the Qualifying Practice session on that outing. After a short while, he came out with his second RCV and staggeringly improved his lap time.
Dani Pedrosa claimed the second seat on the grid behind his teammate. Though he led the FP1, but still he was not able to match the super fast times delivered by Stoner.
Pedrosa said, “I'm happy with the first row on the grid. I've pushed to the limit to get a good position and we achieved it, but to be honest we still need to tune the set up of the bike a little, especially in front because I don't feel as comfortable as
I'd like to.”
Repsol Honda’s third rider Andrea Dovizioso was also strong in the QP session but he could not stick to the top three slots as his best effort was consistently challenged by Ben Spies of the Yamaha factory team.
