Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner takes pole position for AirAsia British Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner took the pole position for Sunday’s AirAsia British Grand Prix.
This is the Aussie’s fourth pole out of six rounds of the 2011 MotoGP season so far.
The Australian rider smashed the 2:03 seconds time barrier and scored the first position to start the British Grand Prix. Other than Stoner, three riders were able to lean in the same time slot. Stoner’s best lap time was 2:02.020 seconds with a top speed
of 308.9 km/h.
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli maintained the second position in the final time sheet of the qualifiers. Though Simoncelli came fastest on a few occasions but Stoner was super fast to step on the top seat in the qualifiers. The Italian rider
will fight for a podium finish on Sunday. His best lap time was 2:02.208 seconds and topped at 306.6 km/h.
Eventually, Yamaha Factory Racing rider Jorge Lorenzo became the third fastest in the final time sheet of qualifiers for Sunday’s race. The Spaniard gave his best shot of 2:02.237 seconds. Lorenzo was struggling to be fast at Silverstone where he has won
in 2010. In practice sessions, he was very impressive and in qualifiers, he managed a top slot.
Lorenzo’s teammate, Ben Spies was just behind him on fourth spot and will start the race from the second row on Sunday. Spies was able to clock 2:02.667 seconds for the fourth spot. He has qualified fourth for the third time in the 2011 season out of six
events. As expected, the American will fight it out with his teammate Lorenzo and Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso to score a podium finish.
Dovizioso came fifth to start the race from second row along Spies. The Italian Repsol rider is also fast and a strong contender to score a podium finish. Both Dovizioso and Spies have scored podium finishes in 2011 season.
Cardion AB Motoracing rider, Karel Abraham was unexpected sixth qualifier for the British Grand Prix. His last best qualifying position in the current season was 12th position in the Portuguese GP. The Czech premier class rider was the fastest
on Ducati leaving down both Factory riders. Ducati Factory rider Nicky Hayden was seventh and teammate Valentino Rossi was far below at 13th place.
Colin Edwards, Alvaro Bautista and Randy de Puniet completed the top ten slots. Monster Yamaha tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow will be absent from his home event due to a fractured collarbone he sustained after a crash in the qualifiers.
