Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner to participate in Malaysian GP as 2011 World Champion – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner enters the Malaysian Grand Prix as the 2011 MotoGP World Champion, after winning at his home ground Phillip Island, Australia.
Stoner said, “After clinching the title in the last race at Phillip Island, we go to Malaysia with a lot less pressure and we can just look forward to the race. It's disappointing to hear that Jorge Lorenzo won’t be there, we had hoped that his recovery from the operation would mean he could race.”
The Aussie rider took fifth consecutive win at his home ground MotoGP event. This time the race win presented him the world title too for the 2011 MotoGP season.
He was short of few points as he had to only get ten points more than Jorge Lorenzo’s (Yamaha) finish in the event.
Unfortunate for Lorenzo he was not able to take part in the Australian GP to defend his title. The Spaniard took a hard hit on asphalt during the QP session. The absence of strongest title contender made it easy for Stoner to clinch the title.
Lorenzo shredded off his fingers on left hand. Lorenzo’s teammate Ben Spies was also unfit after a crash in QP and sat back for the race. Spies suffered from severe bruises on his ribs and lower back.
In total of three riders were sidelined for the last MotoGP event at Australia, this also ended the race with Honda riders in top four positions.
The 2011 World Champion added, “After pre-season testing in Sepang, we proved to be competitive, so we will arrive there positive and look to enjoy the weekend. We're also testing the 1000cc bike on Monday after the race, with the Championship now wrapped up, we can concentrate on the development of next year’s machine, so I'm also looking forward to that.”
Now, the Aussie is relaxed for the next two rounds and can calmly focus on the race performance. Though the Lorenzo is a rival, but he feels unpleasant for Lorenzo to be missing the Sepang event.
The Aussie is looking forward to get in a race wrangle with Lorenzo as soon as possible, to end the season on a pleasant note.
