Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa expresses condolences on Marco Simoncelli’s death at Sepang – MotoGP
Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa, who dominated the Malaysian GP weekend, expressed his commiserations on the death of fellow MotoGP and HRC rider Marco Simoncelli.
The Italian rider had a fatal crash at the Sepang International Circuit, during the second lap of the race. Super Sic sustained multiple injuries on head, neck and chest region.
Pedrosa said, “In a tragedy like this there is not much to say. I just want to give my condolences to his family and all the people who love him. I've been with his father and all we could do was to hug, nothing else matters. It was a fatal accident and
everybody in the paddock remains in shock.”
The Repsol Honda rider also had an unpleasant encounter with the demised Simoncelli at the Le Mans GP. Simoncelli had an aggressive racing style.
He accompanied Super Sic’s family present at the garage. The blessed young Italian was unconscious since the crash having a cardiac arrest, which kept the paddock in shock until the time when his death was announced.
Simoncelli’s hard effort for a podium finish at the French GP made him crash Pedrosa. The Spanish rider suffered from fracture on his right collarbone. Pedrosa also missed couple of races due to the injury.
The incident was highly criticised by fans and paddock including the race directions. The Italian was also penalised with a ‘ride through’ penalty.
However, Pedrosa felt the pain of losing a fun loving and courageous rider from the Honda family. Simoncelli was the only rider in any satellite team riding factory setup which proves his potential for winning.
The Spaniard added, “Many times we ourselves forget how dangerous this sport can be and when you lose people on the way nothing has any meaning. It's clear that we all do what we like, what we love, but on days like today nothing matters.”
Colin Edwards of Monster Yamaha Tech3 and Valentino Rossi of Ducati Team were also involved in the unfortunate crash. The Texan Tornado suffered from a dislocated shoulder which was later fixed.
The crash occurred when Simoncelli ran into the way of Edwards after having a low side fall, yet hanging on his bike. Edwards helplessly slammed into Simoncelli’s right side of the bike and ran over him.
Rossi also had a shock from the hit but recovered the control of his bike and escaped uninjured.
